The 35-year-old performer spoke of her world-famous curves as she posed for Vogue magazine’s iconic September issue, but she didn’t always look the way she does.
Over the years the Umbrella singer’s body has undergone a number of changes – and to be fair she looks incredible throughout.
In her Vogue interview, she was asked about her famous figure and revealed she hopes to hang on to her curves as she embarks on a new fitness regime.
She said: “I’m about to get back into the gym and stuff, and I hope I don’t lose my butt or my hips or all of my thighs. I’ll lose some but not all.
“And I think of my boobs, like, ‘Imma lose everything, everything goes!’ But, you know, it comes with a price. You want to have a butt, then you have a gut.”
Here we track the changing figure of RiRi, from shy teen to badass woman…
2005
A fresh-faced Rihanna burst onto the scene in 2005 with her debut single Pon De Replay.
Still developing her style, the then-17-year-old showed off her slim body in tight, figure-hugging white jeans, at the MTV VMAs.
Of course the singer is never one to blend in, and displayed her toned abs in a crop top topped off with a glitter vest.
2006
You can already see Rihanna gaining confidence in the spotlight in this 2006 snap.
Giving a seductive look to the camera, she posed in tight jeans and another crop top that exposed her trim midriff.
And it’s no wonder the performer looks comfortable in the limelight, as she smashed Billboard charts with SOS.
2007
This was the year of Good Girl Gone Bad being released, and the likes of Shut Up And Drive, Umbrella and Don’t Stop The Music entering our lives.
And the star looked sensational at The Bambi Awards in this clingy leopard print dress.
Working her angles, she oozed confidence as she flaunted her curves.
2008
This was well and truly Rihanna’s year, earning six Grammy nominations at the 2008 awards show when she was 19 years old.
She managed to take home the award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for Umbrella featuring Jay-Z.
Here, she stepped out to celebrate the launch of Gucci’s Tattoo Heart Collection – and it was probably one of her leanest looks so far.
2009
This year got off to a rocky start for the singer, having to suddently pull out of her Grammy performance in February after being attacked by then-boyfriend Chris Brown.
She was out the public spotlight until May of that year, when she stepped out for the first time at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala.
This on-fire shot was released for her album ‘R’, and shows her smouldering in a corset.
2010
Not everyone can pull off high-legged hot pants like Rihanna can.
The singer came back in full force with a Grammy-winning collaboration with Jay-Z and Kanye West for Run This Town.
2011
In 2011, RiRi was snapped enjoying a holiday with friends and family on the beach.
She ensured all eyes were on her in a white bandeau bikini that highlighted her tiny waist and toned legs.
This was the year of her sixth album, Talk That Talk, including smash hits We Found Love and You Da One.
2012
Rihanna painted the town red in this slinky dress that revealed her slender legs.
She said in an interview with Kate Garraway at the time: “You have to just accept your body. You may not love it all the way, but you just have to be comfortable with it, comfortable with knowing that that’s your body.
“You just want something else that someone else has, but that doesn’t mean what you have isn’t beautiful, because people always want what you have, and you always want what they have — no one is ever 100 per cent like, ‘Yes, I’m the bomb dot com — from head to toe!’
2013
Rihanna stole the show when she was pictured strolling along the beach on holiday in Barbados.
The Barbadian beauty took a dip in the ocean and gave herself a body scrub then sipped a drink during sunset.
She looked trim in a string bikini that highlighted her wash-board abs.
2014
Trust RiRi to look effortlessly cool while snapped on a yacht in 2014.
The star looked healthy as she posed up a storm in a colourful bikini but previously admitted that she does struggle with her self-image.
She said a few years prior: “I don’t think anyone is 100 per cent confident, but after a while you get comfortable with the fact that that’s your body, and that I had to learn.”
2015
This smouldering shot shows the Barbadian bombshell raising temperatures on the beach.
Despite having body hang ups like the rest of us, she tries to practise self-love.
Speaking on the topic, she said: “The minute you learn to love yourself you won’t want to be anyone else.”
2016
What better way to show off your pert derriere than in a cheeky swimsuit?
While she looks jaw-dropping in this pic, she admitted that she does nitpick about her body and particularly the size of her bum.
She said to E! Online: “I do pick on my body. It’s a thing that women do. We walk in front of the mirror and we look at our butt. Is it getting bigger today? Ew. It’s still flat.”
2017
The star pulled out all the stops in celebrating the annual Crop Over Festival in her native Caribbean country in 2017.
She dazzled in a skimpy bejeweled bikini with matching garters and left little to the imagination.
Her provactive outfit showed off her volumputous curves and certainly grabbed worldwide attention.
Last year she said to The Cut: “I actually have had the pleasure of a fluctuating body type, where one day I can literally fit into something that is bodycon, and then the next day—the next week—I need something oversized.
“I need a little crop here and a high-waist there to hide that part, you know? I really pay attention every day when I go into the closet about what’s working for my body that morning.”
2018
Rihanna recently spoke about confidence and how women need to embrace what they see in the mirror.
Having recently launched a lingerie collection called Savage x Fenty, Rihanna revealed her aim was to make women feel sexy and confident.
She said last month: “Women should be wearing lingerie for their damn selves. I can only hope to encourage confidence and strength by showing lingerie in another light.
“I want people to wear Savage x Fenty and think, “I’m a bad b****.” I want women to own their beauty.”
