Roman Reigns is the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and he has been on top of the world for well over three years now. That is why it comes as no surprise he is viewed as the biggest star in professional wrestling. Fans still want him to face off against The Rock and it appears the match might have recently been confirmed.

Fans are excited about a potential clash between The Rock and Roman Reigns, but they didn’t want it to overshadow Cody Rhodes’ storyline. While it initially seemed to be going in that direction, cooler heads prevailed and fans will see Cody Rhodes face off against Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 40 instead.

The Rock’s Dream Match With Roman Reigns Might Have Been Confirmed

WWE and professional wrestling, though not a competitive combat sport like others, exert significant physical demands on the body, necessitating extensive training for participants. Even seasoned wrestlers like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson must undergo thorough preparation before each match.

After a four-year hiatus, The Rock returned to WWE in September 2023 but has yet to compete in a match. Paul Heyman, WWE’s newest Hall of Fame inductee, in a recent interview with Jimmy Traina from Sports Illustrated, talked about The Rock’s conditioning for a match.

Upon his return to WWE, The Brahma Bull initially aimed to face Reigns for the Head of the Table title, diverting from fans’ expectations of Cody Rhodes concluding his storyline. However, a sudden heel-turn led to Johnson teaming up with his cousin instead.

In discussing the potential for a dream match between Johnson and Reigns without the heel-turn, Paul Heyman expressed optimism, stating, “Could Dwayne Johnson have come back and put together a really classic, very memorable 15-minute match with Roman Reigns for this year’s WrestleMania without going through that training? I bet he could.” Heyman was positive about the feasibility of a fifteen-minute bout.

The Rock Acknowledged Roman Reigns On SmackDown And Confirmed WWE’s Prediction For Cody Rhodes

Roman Reigns and The Rock took center stage on last week’s SmackDown on FOX, showcasing The Bloodline’s dominance. Before The Rock’s entrance, Roman threatened to leave due to unfavorable fan reactions, expressing displeasure with being booed. Paul Heyman hyped up The Rock’s introduction after a commercial break.

Upon The Rock’s entrance, he engaged with the crowd, playfully questioning their decision to boo him. He delivered a scathing promo, mentioning Phoenix’s reputation for drug use. Amid “Die Rocky Die” chants, he declared pro wrestling cool again and dismissed Cody Rhodes as not cool.

The Rock addressed Cody Rhodes’ challenge, emphatically saying “no.” He playfully teased the crowd, referring to them as “Crack Head Karens” and “Meth Head Marys,” stating they couldn’t handle his “22 inches,” referring to his biceps.

Continuing to mock Cody Rhodes, The Rock countered with an offer. Night One of WrestleMania 40 would feature The Rock and Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. If the faces win, The Bloodline won’t be ringside for the Universal Title match on night two. If the heels win, Bloodline rules apply for their Universal Title match.

The Rock announced they’d be in Dallas for SmackDown this week to hear the response firsthand. The segment concluded with Roman Reigns requesting acknowledgment, and The Rock obliged, acknowledging Reigns as his Tribal Chief, leading to a significant crowd reaction and subsequent “You Sold Out” chants.

With this announcement, WWE’s prediction for Cody Rhodes to face The Rock in a tag team match at WrestleMania 40 has come true. Only time will tell if The Rock and Roman Reigns will beat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins at the Showcase of The Immortals.
